Lipid Droplet investigation in Cancer Stem Cells

Details

The main research objective is the study of Lipid Droplet (LDs) expression in Colorectal (CR-CSCs) and Melanoma (M-CSCs) Cancer Stem Cells. Recently we have shown that CR-CSCs can be detected on the basis of the LD overexpression compared to their healthy and differentiated counterparts. To this purpose, we have used label free techniques, especially Raman spectroscopy, to highlight their features. 

Many questions about LD functions need to be clarified. Mainly, what is their role in cancer progression and maintenance. Currently, combining many different approaches, spanning from confocal to electron (SEM and TEM) and atomic force (AFM) microscopy, from FACS to qPCR, we are investigating LD function in cancer chemo-resistance and the lipid pathways involved in LD expression.‚Äč
